Jarred Tinordi, Arvid Söderblom, shine in Blackhawks come from behind victory
Jarred Tinordi scored twice, including the game-winner, while Arvid Söderblom made 39 saves
Jarred Tinordi had two career NHL goals leading up to Saturday night’s game against the Anaheim Ducks. He ended up scoring another two against the Ducks, including the game-winner. The Blackhawks won 3-2.
“Last year I had a lucky bounce in this building, too. So maybe it’s the building that’s giving me some good vibes out there,” said Tinordi.
It wasn’t just the goals either that made Tinordi look good. He recorded five hits (1st on team), two shots on goal (T-2nd), a 47.73% 5v5 Expected Goals Share (6th) and a 66.67% 5v5 High Danger Chance Share (2nd).
Despite allowing two early goals, to Troy Terry and Adam Henrique, Arvid Söderblom shut it down. After allowing the second goal, Söderblom, made 24 straight saves. In total, he saved 39 of 41 shots, saved 10 high-danger shots, and recorded a +1.14 Goals Saved Above Expected.
“We dodged a bullet, we luckily battled our way into this, and our goaltender kept us in again,” Luke Richardson said.
Filip Roos also scored his first career NHL goal. He ended up scoring off of his own rebound. It was a cool moment for Roos, as he got to score his first goal in front of his dad.
The Blackhawks were heavily outplayed by the Ducks at 5v5. The Ducks led in chances (59-36 ANA), shots (36-20 ANA) and Expected Goals (2.74-1.91 ANA).
Ultimately, the Blackhawks were able to win thanks to goals from Tinordi (two) and Roos, as well as Söderblom locking it down. The Blackhawks play again on Monday where they take on the Carolina Hurricanes.
Other Notes:
The line of Kurashev-Domi-Kane was on the ice for every goal. Very high event line.
Athanasiou-Toews-Raddysh were outshot 11-3 at 5v5, they struggled for most of the game.
The Blackhawks won 39 of 62 faceoffs (62.9%), Toews won 17 of his 24 faceoffs. Reminder: Faceoffs don’t mean that much in the grand scheme of things, especially considering that the Blackhawks were outplayed.
Is Söderblom making a case to stay in Chicago for the rest of the year? He has a .924 Save Percentage (10th), 0.471 Goals Saved Above Expected/60 (17th), and an .846 High Danger Save Percentage (T-6th) amongst goaltenders with four or more games.
